Bogue Falaya River Tours
Combining the history and natural beauty of the Northshore of Lake Pontchartrain.
History – Culture – Gorgeous River
Drive time is about 45 minutes from New Orleans
This River Tour combines history and culture to carry guests back in time and learn about the customs of local Native Americans who encamped and thrived on the Bogue Falaya. Paddling past the town’s 1800s steamship landing, you will hear stories of enslaved individuals who achieved emancipation well before the Civil War. From a 19th century resort destination famous for mineral springs and sandy beaches, Covington today maintains tracks of the historic “doodle bug” rail line which carried top-hatted guests from New Orleans. Between our guide’s chats, this quiet adventure offers time to wade and enjoy the tree canopy of birdsong. A portion of proceeds benefits the United Houma Nation and the Amistad Research Center.
