Driving
Directions & Contingency Plans Driving directions to the campgrounds in Ocean Springs and to the Schooner in Biloxi For the schooner - The schooner is docked in Biloxi off of a pier that extends out from highway US 90 – a quarter of a mile west of the four or five story Grand Casino. Directions are to take I 10 to Biloxi, exit at the Biloxi exit (#46) and proceed towards the Gulf on I 110. Once at the beach, take US 90 east and proceed a couple of miles. In the distance, Grand Casino will be seen on the north side of the highway. On the south side jutting out into the water will be a single pier with docks and running in between two green room sized buildings. Off of the highway opposite the pier is parking for a couple dozen cars. Directly across from the schooner pier is the site for the new Seafood Museum that is to be part of a complex of museums. If you are running late (after 9 am) Thursday morning, call me on my cellular phone - 504 606-2207. Contingency plans for bad weather We have made approximately 25 trips to Horn Island over the years. Bad weather has never prevented us from reaching or returning from the island on schedule. However, there is always a possibility that a strong north wind will cause us problems. If this occurs on the day we are to go out, then we will spend the day on the mainland and wait for the afternoon or evening. On the day of return, the weather could prevent us getting off the island on schedule. If necessary we would come back in the evening or early, early the next morning. |
